Hacked!

Hopefully, no one but me & the other site editors knows about this. Maybe none of ya'll even noticed!
But we were hacked.

Yesterday, I checked, on a wild hair, google to see our site ranking. Ego googling. And we were gone! Where we once appeared somewhere along the top rankings of google, we, and all my listings on my name, were gone!!

I didn't know why. I whined to the google email people. Then, on a hunch, I checked our HTML code. The stuff that's behind the webpages, that most people don't even know how to check. And hidden back there was some bizarro "adult" HTML coding that I don't really understand. I don't know if it was helping whoever did this to improve their google rating, or it was redirecting people to their website (the "adult" site) or what.

But while I have a "third wave" attitude about adult materials, I certainly do not want to be a purveyor of the stuff on my LITERATURE and feminism website!!! Not to mention the fact that the search engines frown upon "secret redirects" and other kinds of code.

So all night till today the website has been down. I'm working on fixing it, but I have an awful lot of HTML to check over for hidden junk. And for some reason, I'm still having trouble logging in to important places to log in which could streamline the uploads of all those hundreds of webpages we have on this website. So it's going slower than I hoped. But it's working. We're on our way back!

I feel so important, you know. Hacked, by real hackers! But dudes. The adult industry owns, legitimately, such a huge corner of the Internet. Please don't steal the rest of it from us! I feel very violated, like someone did a home invasion of my baby website.

Please bear with us while the site is rebuilt. There will be some house cleaning as a result of this. And we're working, still, on the direction the site is going to take in the future. Some things will be taken down for various reasons... which I will explain at a later date, when I have more time.

But there is a reason why this site is twice-yearly-- I don't really have time to do much work on this during the regular school semester! So. Slow & steady.

If there is a particular page you're looking for and you get this message, please go ahead and contact me at the mysterious email address I'm going to add here in a sec. I'll try to help out. write to kimwells[at]womenwriters[dot]net replace the stuff in the [brackets] with what it spells out. The one is that fancy symbol: you know the one. @.

Color scheme:

Okay, okay. I hear you. The black background with white text is hard to read. I'm working on updating this, but I have over 1100 pages on this website, all designed at various times over the past 10 years. Some of them have HTML code that I can fix in an auto update but some do not. So I am manually going through ALL of the webpages to fix the colors. We're going to be boring, white background w/ black text now. So that will explain what is going on if you notice that some pages are there and some pages aren't (colorwise). It's slow going but I'll get it done soonish.
