Orchard House/Salem Witch Memorial & Me

Here I am at the memorial-- on my day trip to Concord and the surrounding areas. This was one of the last things we did that day before heading back to Boston. It actually was getting a little cold as the sun was beginning to set. One of the things I thought was cool about Salem is that there were a lot of young teens running around wearing witch garb-- it seems to me like the witches are a symbol of girl-power nowadays, and I like that idea. Most of the witches were single women, and the really had very little power in those days. The tourism to Salem indicates really how far we've come in all these years, but the memorial is a sad reminder that hysteria and suffering can go hand in hand, and get way out of control.
